WAS MUHAMMAD A PROPHET OR A KING?

WRITTEN BY HAZRAT AMIR-UL-MOU'MININ MUHYI-ID-DIN MUNIR AHMAD AZIM

The Real Status of the Prophet

The Holy Messenger of God (peace & blessings of God be on him) had the real status of a Prophet and not that of a king or a ruler upon this earth. He was the ‘Seal of the Prophets’, i.e, the best and the most perfect of the Prophets; the embellishment and ornament of the Prophets, instead of being a monarch or an emperor. Almighty God in His Holy Book, the Qur’an, described his status in this way: “And Muhammad is not the father to any man among you but he is a Messenger of God and the Seal of the Prophets.(ch. 33: V. 41)

Although his status was that of a prophet of God and seal of the prophets, yet there is no reason to doubt that from another aspect he could also aptly be regarded as a king. Looking back at his life in Medina , it becomes very clear that he was in fact not only a king, but was also truly an emperor. His position in fact, was so unique and multi-dimensional that even the question and the debate whether he was a prophet or a king appears un-necessary.

Apparently, the topic chosen for this discussion reflects as if prophethood and kingship are two totally separate positions, of which one was applicable to the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.)* and the other was not. If we set aside the facts, this doubt grows even stronger. Looking at his life in Medina , the above-mentioned calculation does not apply, this means that the title has some other connotations, and that according to his real status, he was a Prophet of God and kingship and kingdom were not his main aim. But as said in the Holy Qur’an: And in the Messenger of God, you have a perfect Model.”

Because he was a perfect example for all walks of life, it was necessary that he be given kingship also, to enable him to demonstrate the supremacy of character and perfection of behaviour, which should associated with kingship. This of course, was subsidiary to what he strived hard to achieve, the perfection of religious laws and human character and values, during the tenure of his Ministry. But while exercising the responsibilities of a king, he certainly remained innocent of the ill-effects of character which sometimes accumulate in a person who is granted a kingship; and the opponents of Islam, placing and presenting him in the line of worldly kings, have done great injustice to his noble

person.

It appears that from the study of his life and sayings, from his acts and excellent character, the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) was not only a prophet but was also free from all undesirable elements and blemishes associated with many worldly kings. On one side, he was an ideal to follow in his deeds, sayings, character and excellence of behaviour; on the other, he demonstrated such a perfect example of political acumen and supreme leadership that any one could seek valuable guidance from him in this field also.

When we compare the simplicity, unostentatiousness and humility of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (p.b.u.h.) with the pomp and show of worldly kings, we are left with a feeling of utter amazement. In ordinary dealings and conversations, worldly kings have a peculiar style of ceremony and grandeur; but the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.), while talking to and dealing with thousands of people, never even let them feel that they were conversing with a superior person and kept such a low profile that he appeared as an ordinary person. His life in Medina is proof that he was a true vicegerent of God on earth. When his state of helplessness was transformed into that of sovereignty in Medina , even then he shunned every form of pomp and show, arrogance or grandeur, and remained the same simple individual that he was previously. Such was Muhammad, the Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.), and the like of whom the world never knew before nor would it ever witness again till the end of time. *p.b.u.h : Peace be upon him This email is brought to you by:HANISHA

Assalamo Alykum wa Rehmatullahe wa barakaatuh

Today (12th Rabi’aa Awal) is the birth of the greatest man the human kind has ever known.

From the Holy Quran Surat Al Saf (61:6) And (remember) when 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: "O Children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allâh unto you confirming the Taurât [(Torah) which came] before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmed. But when he (Ahmed i.e. Muhammad SAW) came to them with clear proofs, they said: "This is plain magic.”

Surat Al Baqarah (2:127) And (remember) when Ibrahim (Abraham) and (his son) Ismail (Ishmael) were raising the foundations of the House (the Ka'bah at Makkah), (saying), "Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Verily! You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.” (2:128) "Our Lord! And make us submissive unto You and of our offspring a nation submissive unto You, and show us our Manâsik  (all the ceremonies of pilgrimage - Hajj and 'Umrah, etc.), and accept our repentance. Truly, You are the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful. (2:129) "Our Lord! Send amongst them a Messenger of their own (and indeed Allâh answered their invocation by sending Muhammad Peace be upon him), who shall recite unto them Your Verses and instruct them in the Book (this Qur'ân) and Al-Hikmah (full knowledge of the Islamic laws and jurisprudence or wisdom or Prophet hood, etc.), and sanctify them. Verily! You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.”

Surat Al Jumaa (62:1) Whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth glorifies Allâh, the King (of everything), the Holy, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. (62:2) He it is Who sent among the unlettered ones a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) from among themselves, reciting to them His Verses, purifying them (from the filth of disbelief and polytheism), and teaching them the Book (this Qur'ân, Islâmic laws and Islâmic jurisprudence) and Al- Hikmah (As-Sunnah: legal ways, orders, acts of worship, etc. of Prophet Muhammad SAW). And verily, they had been before in manifest error; (62:3) And He has sent him (Prophet Muhammad SAW) also to others among them (Muslims) who have not yet joined them (but they will come). And He (Allâh) is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.

The book is comprehensive, based on research, having literary merit and supported by original sources (Last of the Prophets ordained as a mercy unto mankind. There is no dearth of history in English literature. This particular Biography vividly depicts the story of Islam in dramatic running style and lucidly brings out the glorious character of the Holy Prophet and his perseverance as a mercy unto Mankind magnifying the universality of Islam. The personality of Muhammad! It is most difficult to get into the truth of it. Only a glimpse of it can be catch. What a dramatic succession of picturesque scenes. There is Muhammad the Prophet. There is Muhammad the General; Muhammad the King; Muhammad the Warrior; Muhammad the Businessman; Muhammad the Preacher; Muhammad the Philosopher; Muhammad the Statesman; Muhammad the Orator; Muhammad the Reformer; Muhammad the Refuge of orphans; Muhammad the Protector of Slaves; Muhammad the Emancipator of women; Muhammad the Law-giver; Muhammad the Judge; Muhammad the Saint; And in all these magnificent roles, in all these departments of human activities, he is like, a hero. The Encyclopedia Britannica says that Muhammad is the most successful of all Prophets and religious personalities. But the success was not the result of mere accident. It was not a hit of fortune. It was recognition of fact that he was found to be true metal by his contemporaries. It was the result of his admirable and all compelling personality. As honest man, as the saying goes, is the noblest work of god, Muhammad was more than honest.  Human sympathy, human love was the music of his soul. To serve man, to elevate man, to purify man, to educate man, in a word to humanize man- this was the object of his mission, the be all and end all of his life. In thought, in word, in action he had the good of humanity as his sole inspiration, his sole guiding principle. BOOK PUBLISHED BY NATIONAL BOOK FOUNDATION, ISLAMABAD PAKISTAN

God’s Prophets (Eid-e-Miladun Nabi Special)

When a machine is produced it is accompanied by a set of instructions for its use. An engineer is also commissioned to give a practical demonstration of how the machine functions. Man is an even more intricately designed but animate machine. When he is born, he suddenly finds himself in a world where no mountain bears an inscription answering questions concerning the nature of the world, or explaining how he should live on earth. No educational institutions produces experts who know the secret of life or who can provide man with practical guidance.

To satisfy this need felt by man, God sent His prophets to the world, every one of whom brought with him the word of God. In the scriptures revealed to them, God has explained the reality of life to man, and has made it clear what man should and should not do. They showed man what sentiments and ideas he should adopt; how he should remember his Lord; how he should live with his fellows, what he should associate himself with and disassociate himself from. The prophets’ lives are a practical demonstration of how a person should live a God---fearing life. God has given everyone the power to distinguish between right and wrong. He has also placed countless signs in space and on earth from which man can learn. Moreover, His revelations have been set down in human language and several of His servants chosen from amongst mankind as prophets, so that there should be no doubt as to the true path.
